How to reset to default settings Merging Chests without starting the game? Factorio freeze on launch after increasing the number of mergining chests.

Either try to modify mod-settings.dat in your %AppData%/Factorio/mods or just straight delete it.

What setting did you change (and to what number if you can rememer) that caused game to freeze?

42 => 1000
42 => 1000
1600 => 1000000
The end of the download did not wait. Forty minutes after launch game, Windows brought up a message about low memory.

What can edit the file mod-settings.dat. Notepad opens it with unreadable values.
I deleted this file - the game went with default values.

Yeah, those settings would fry everyone's computer. I'd suggest keeping the settings as low as you really need. I'd guess you don't really need 1000x1000 tile chest.

I wanted to try this size. I read your answer and thought - no need to additionally generate new sizes above the norm, but simply add fixed sizes to the checkboxs. For example, 100 * 100, 200 * 200, 500 * 500, 1000 * 1000.

Whitelist filter is applied after the maximum height/width/area settings. So if you configure to maximum 100 width, 100 height the whitelist won't be able to add 120x100 chest.

Mod have an inventory size limit of 65,500+. This corresponds to the size of the composite chest less than 37 * 37 (37 * 37 * 48 = 65712). Therefore, to combine the chests of more than 37 * 37 makes sense only in the case of geometric necessity. The capacity of the combined chests will still be no more than 65,500 cells.
