Hey there,
it's an Easter Egg indeed! On october 29th 1991, the first man made spacecraft made a pass by an asteroid and collected some decent pictures!
Funnily enough that was probably the least exciting event in that spacecrafts (Galileo) journey as it passed by another asteroid, recorded and discovered the first asteroid moon, observed a comet crash into Jupiter, gathered tons of new data about Jupiters moons and rings and then proceeded to outlive its design specifications by almost 6 years!
I do allow myself some joy and whimsy when making my mods as long as it hardly affects gameplay.
