The Beast

by Klaudia

A biomechanical virus crash lands on your mining outpost. It spreads along your belts until your inserters come alive, pick up your machines and even your trains, and walk off with them.

g Cool concept. Flawed execution.

ngl the mod's kinda underwhelming. I started a game with it and 20 minutes is roughly when I researched electric miners, so I didn't even have ore belts yet. So. Nothing really happened. It crashed on my stone patch, I picked up what hadn't been infected, then a death world biter swarm promptly tore all my turrets to shreds, which meant the mod didn't really contribute to anything happening. I think adding a slider for when the crash starts and prolonging the default time to maybe an hour would make it more interesting.

Also apparently it can land on other planets? also cool but maybe blacklist gleba. my stone mine wasn't hooked up to much of anything

+1 ran into the same issues. Hit 20 minutes, infected my iron mine, and I just picked everything up and walked away. Played without biters and for another 20 minutes, but no second deployment occurred (It doesn't advertise one, but it would have had an impact).

Also seems to make some tiles invincible, like burner miners and belts. I think you should be able to fully defeat it, where it will then return in another location after 20 minutes.

Hiya!

I actually completely agree, I was in a bit of a rush to get the mod released after my plan fell through,
I was kinda intending it as a 'challenge' where you load the mod into an already established factory and then see if you can survive.

So for the next update I will make some tweaks, I didn't think people would play from the very beginning with the mod enabled, so we need some longer delay before The Beast arrives :3

Also only 1 beast is intentional, that its a 'unique threat' , I am not sure if it would be fun fighting it over and over again...
I will think about that part also :3

Thank you for trying it out, and any other ideas or such please let me know

The infected tiles actually just get uninfected, so in effect you're "curing" them. I have had situations where the tiles still get damaged after being cured for whatever reason, but I'm not entirely sure if that's a bad thing necessarily, even if it is unintended.

Thanks for the feedback!

In 2.1.1 the Beast waits for an established factory: at least an hour in, with 200 mining drills and 10 locomotives.
All three are map settings you can change mid-game, and 0 turns a condition off.
It also lands on the surface where you have the most drills, so it won't waste itself on a little mine on Gleba.

There are also new creatures: chemical plants and refineries that spit infection, artillery that shells your defences, solar panels, accumulators, steam engines, labs, beacons and more.
Space Age and modded buildings of those kinds get picked up too :3
