Energy and pollution are equivalent of vanilla electric miners.
Because they mine so fast, the pollution doesn't have time to be absorbed, creating some kind of Pulse of polution that goes further than a slow mining.

Hints:
1 - Efficiency Modules reduces Energy AND Pollution, great way to reduce the impact.
2 - Just defend the place, i use these 3 mods for defense: Turret Shields, Repair Turret and Force Fields.
OR
3 - Use my other mod called Heavy Tank, just kill everything that moves "near" your base....
