I would like an option to have the mod only allow for the range and offset of inserters to be changed, the diagonal options feel like they're a little too easy to abuse.

Hi, I'd like to second this.

I really just want 3 things

• change the lane drop offset
• rotate by 90° - no diagonals
• disable long handed and instead have a range option
• all of the above with an optional technology to unlock it

I changed bob's mod to be like this in 1.1 but I'm switching to this mod in Space Age.

I'd love if you could make these changes. I don't want to make my own version, which gets overridden by the next official version etc etc. :(

change the lane drop offset, I'd like to avoid this for now, to avoid issues with the GUI, you can use the shortcut to alternate long and near offset or the grid's border. I'll see what I can do in a future release (will come)
rotate by 90°, I like this option I'll add this one, I was thinking about this too
disable long-handed and instead have a range option, already present check the settings
all of the above with an optional technology to unlock it, offset technology is present, range technology is present, disable long inserter is present, the only thing missing is the 90° degree limitation.

I'm not going to merge those technologies into a single one for this specific case though.

Single line implemented, I'll add directional too before updating, for now, these 2 will only be settings and will not have technologies.
These 2 settings will replace the existing "directional_slim" and "single_line_slim"
