i Compatibility with Automatic Coupler mod

(updated 6 years ago)

Hi,

I've updated the Automatic Coupler mod to work in 0.16, and I'd love for it to work with Smarter trains (de-coupling, sending the locomotives to refuel, send them back, re-couple, and continue on). Unfortunately, when de-coupling (or coupling I think), the line assignment is lost. Is there any way this can be prevented? I'm very new to Factorio modding, otherwise I would have attempted to do this myself.

Actually, thinking about it, automatic coupling and decoupling woud be a great addition to the Smarter Trains mod. That would give you pretty much all the flexibility you could ever want, train-wise.

that would be a very cool addition

Is there a 0.17 version of the mod somewhere? I assume https://mods.factorio.com/mod/Automatic_Coupling_System ?

I can see a couple of issues (that are not related to SmarterTrains still not using some new API events):
If 2 trains get coupled that each have a different line assigned to them, which one is kept? Not sure how Factorio handles it for schedules, i think the most recent changed schedule is kept?
We could say the locomotives line/schedule is kept, but then there probably are use cases where each part has a locomotive.

I never used the mod, and my last map where i did some advanced stuff with SmarterTrains was probably in Factorio 0.14 when i wrote it, so my imagination is a bit lacking for use cases and sensible behaviour.
