Orbital Ion Cannon (Space Exploration Compatibility Edition)

by qwuin_

Launch orbital ion cannons with a rocket silo and call down the thunder on enemy nests. Cannons stay in orbit of the planet they were launched from. Target from the map with a shortcut-bar device, extend its reach with an orbital uplink and let radars pick off nests on their own. Works with Space Age and Space Exploration. Rewritten for Factorio 2.0 on Supercheese's original Orbital Ion Cannon (MIT).

g [Suggestion] Orbital Ion Cannons return to Radar upon being dismantled

I'm not very proficient in English, so I rely on Google Translate for writing.
Regarding the Orbital Ion Cannon and Orbital Ion Cannon MK2: once placed and then dismantled, they currently revert to the base "Radar" item.
Given the crafting materials used, I would prefer if they returned to their respective original items—the Orbital Ion Cannon and Orbital Ion Cannon MK2-upon being removed. Would this be possible?
Thank you for your time and consideration.

Thank you for the report! You are right: in version 3.8.15, the placed cannons return a Radar when you remove them. That was a bug.

Version 4.0 is a complete rewrite and works differently. The Orbital Ion Cannon is no longer placed on the ground. You load it into a rocket silo and launch it into orbit. Then you take the targeting device from the shortcut bar and click a target. There is no MK2 anymore.

There is a new building, the Orbital uplink. When it has power, you can target anywhere on its planet. When you remove it, you get the Orbital uplink back, not a Radar.

Important: if you have placed cannons in an old save, please do the following:
make backup
then remove the mod
load your savefile
save the game
reload with new version of this mod enabled
load your new world
and that's it!
