This is amazing and I'm absolutely interested... but some kind of footbridge (or vehicle bridge, or transport belt bridge) would really round out the concept. I guess that could get tricky with varying river lengths, though, depending on how the bridges would work.
We could always use landfill, but filling in the rivers would defeat the whole point!
