maybe you could make the ring of fire invisible because its super un-immersive :D
take a look at realistic reactors (prototypes\fx.lua), i had to increase the speed and reduce radius a bit, i think it's perfect now (but you could just make the explosion graphics bigger to keep the radius)
It just applies to the reactor explosion, so people still need your mod for beautiful nukes.
