Hey, running a modded server with krastorio and some smaller mods, i added this in the middle of our run but when painting over a structure with the tool it says ' ModuleInserter/control.lua:300: attempt to index local 'config'(a nil value)

Thanks for the report, should be fixed in the latest update.

Looks like you used the tool before setting a configuration or you closed the gui without applying the changes.
