They should connect automatically when being placed one after the other. You can check the conmection by mousing over them (a white line should appear connecting them). If alt-mode is on, a red "forbidden" symbol should be shown if the linked belt can't be linked with anymore - in this case you have to destroy and rebuild it, or use commands to link it.
