Krastorio 2 Imersite Asteroids

by snakeru

Add more challenge to your game by postponing imersite mining on Nauvis until you mastered asteroid mining. This mod will lock the imersite drill behind the advanced tech card, and you'll need to bootstrap it by acquiring imersite in space - mostly en route to Aquilo or traversing the asteroid belt (should you choose to install that mod), though Fulgora also has some trace amounts of it too.

g Imersite Asteroid Reprocessing

Hi! thanks for your work on this mod, is there any chance you could include an imersite asteroid reprocessing recipe, and add imersite to the other reprocessing products? Maybe using Aquilo tech cards?

Hi. My pleasure.

I think it is a nice idea, but I am not quite sure how exactly this should look like. I tried to analyze how Imersite is positioned in the Krastorio's tech tree and found this:

  • the metallurgic tech card unlocks the vanilla space age reprocessing tech
  • both imersite productivity and "minerals conversion" (imersite matter conversion) are locked behind the singularity tech card
  • "classic" asteroid reprocessing converts between the three basic types.

So this seems to suggest that imersite chunks reprocessing should be locked behind the singularity tech card (and may be also behind the regular reprocessing at the same time).

Regarding the actual recipes:
1) I don't think it is technically possible to add the 4th asteroid type to the classic reprocessing on the technology unlock. And it would be a production chain breaker if it were possible because it would poison the outputs.
2) I am generally unsure if reprocessing of basic asteroids into imersite ones is a good idea. That said - behind the singularity tech card is already the end game so it might still make sense
3) so I can envision the following recipes:
3.1) reprocess imersite asteroids: Produce 4 asteroid chunk types with 20% probability each (and 20% probability that the imersite chunk is just wasted)
3.2) 3 more "advanced" reprocessing recipes specifically targeted for imersite farming in space (with a side line of stone farming) all following the same pattern. For example: "advanced metallic asteroid reprocessing" yielding 39% metallic asteroid chunk, 19% oxide chunk, 19% carbonic chunk and 3% imersite chunk.

I can certainly see the (3.1) being a logical continuation of the mod but I am not sure if it alone is useful enough to justify the feature creep. The regular asteroid types are abundant after all.
I can also see some merit behind the (3.2) but I am not sure if it really integrates well into the existing tech tree or if it feels like being "hotglued to the side".

Please share your insights.

Thanks for getting back to me!

Your analysis makes sense to me. I had 3 situations in mind where I figured people might use it:
- resource rebalancing on Aquilo+ ships
- general space production ships (eg, if you want to build a ship with some kind of production but dont want to design it for the aquilo route, this provides an option)
- quality casino ships for people that still want to use that system for quality imersite and rare metals
I dont think any of these points really impacts your suggested research position, generally its a later game consideration.

re: (1) - Would it make more sense to leave classic reprocessing as is and have a seperate imersite asteroid research that adds an additional product to the classic recipes afterwards? Is that even possible? Apologies, as much as I would love to learn how to mod, I am wholly unfamiliar with the technical limitations! Another consideration would be impacts of other mods such as Cupric Asteriods that add other by products.

Either option I think is workable, I will only add:
- Obviously its only worth your time input if you see the value, but I appreciate the effort you put into this game regardless!
- In general, I dont really see concern with "hot glued to the side" recipes like this - given the choose-you-own-adventure style of the game people can interract with things like this however they want! Maybe the reprocessing recipe can be an optional mod setting?

Cheers!
