I am new to the game and wonder how I can control the biters? I cannot seem to select any of the friendly biters on the initial spawn...

You'll need to research "Biter attack control" for attacking and "Biter expand control" for expanding. Once researched, you can craft 2 "Blueprints" each (a select tool and a control tool). When you crafted it, you need to first select an area (or entity for attacking) with the select tool and then select some of your friendly aliens to expand (or attack that entity)

If you look for the entry in crafting, it is currently in "Unsorted" (once you have research either of the two to make it available)
