Factorio 2.0 Breaking Change

You'll need to use an older version of the mod for pre-2.0 versions of Factorio. API changes made the newest version incompatible.

Introduction

Provides a selection tool that swaps container entities between their normal version and a UPS+ version with a set inventory size.

Mod intent is to provide UPS savings when using a large number of warehouse-style buildings by reducing their storage space.

This mod does not edit existing storage buildings, but instead creates a duplicate version during startup.

Naturally, it is compatible with everything. No guarantees on how it works with modded composite entities.

The Nitty-Gritty

Using the selection tool on any container in the game will exchange it for the UPS+ version, preserving as much information as possible. Circuit connections, storage chest filters, buffer/requester item requests are all carried across.

When there are too many items to fit the swapped building, the extras will be spilled on the ground by default. If you would like, you can disable this and instead delete the additional items by unchecking the provided Map mod setting.

You can revert a UPS+ version to it's normal counterpart by using the reverse-selection feature of the mod's selection tool. For most people, this will be right-clicking while selecting as opposed to left-clicking. If you deconstruct or manually mine a UPS+ version, it will be returned to your inventory as it's normal version.

Closing Remarks

  • Special thanks to flart for kicking off my inspiration for this evolution of the original mod.

A side-effect of this mod is that "UPS+" versions of containers will exist even for entities whose storage size is less than the chosen amount. For instance, the crashed spaceship has 5 slots, but the UPS+ version has 10 (by default). I don't intend to change this, as uniformly addressing ALL containers made some logical parts of this mod simpler. I like to think of it as an easter egg.
