g [solved] Batteries being swallowed and gone

Hi, thank you, the mod is very cool.

I'm having an issue where I either fail to understand how charging batteries works or something is not working right.

My scenario is as follows:

  1. I charged a battery in the station to 100%, auto fed it into the train via sorter.

  2. Then the charger got a brand new empty battery to charge

  3. Once that was done, I moved the train back and forth on the tracks a little bit to test it out, come back to the station

  4. Now the barely discharged very first battery was immediately removed from the train and inserted into the charger, even though it was no where near empty, the sorter "put" it into the charger and the battery disappeared.

The charger was showing the icon of containing a battery, but there were no batteries inside and nothing was charging.

Upon picking the charger up, I got no battery back. I picked up the inserters also, thinking maybe it was stuck on the inserters, which it also wasnt.

Thanks for your help!

Partially charged battery packs aren’t visible in trains or chargers.

  • Place a locomotive, enter it and view the fuel tab. There are no charged or discharged batteries inside and the fuel progress bar is empty.
  • Place a charged battery pack in the input slot.
  • Drive the train for a moment and then stop.
  • The charged battery pack is gone and no discharged battery pack is there either, but the fuel progress bar is fully green.
  • If you drive the train until it runs out of fuel, a discharged battery pack will appear in the output slot even though the input slot was empty.

Now with a charger:

  • Place a charger and open it.
  • Place a discharged battery pack in the input slot.
  • The battery pack will be gone and the charging animation is displayed. The progress bar is initially empty because the battery charges so slowly.
  • If you wait a bit, the progress bar will start filling.
  • When the charging is finished, a charged battery pack will be placed in the output slot.

I think you might’ve been tricked by that. What you got out of the train was the previously inserted battery and the newly inserted battery is now partially used and shown as the green bar instead. When the empty battery was placed in the charger, it immediately started charging but because the progress bar was still empty, you thought there was no battery inside.

I’m not sure why you got no battery pack back when you picked put the charger. I just tried it and got an empty battery pack back. What happens if you pick up an assembler that is working and has nothing in its input slots? Do you get the partially used ingredients back?

Hi catweax! Thank you for your help!

After spending some time with it and not giving up, I think I have found the problem.
The problem was me being a dumdum. I must have had a full inventory when picking up the trains and the batteries dropped.
Out of coincidence I have found a stack of batteries in a remote location laying on a belt. My confusion when I saw that lol, but after thinking about it, the belt was connected to where I picked up the trains, so it must have been what happened!

Everything else seems to be A-OK.

Super awesome mod and if it wasn't for that, as a new player, I'd probably not touch the train system in the game.
Thank you, once again.

Have a lovely day!
