Avatars


This mod allows players to create and remotely control Avatars. Avatars act like players, with a few minor exceptions. The mod also includes a few custom entities to control and create the Avatars.

i Space Exploration compatibility

To start the mod isn't crashing however it could use some tweaks for use with 0.3 Space Exploration.

Mainly better tech tree placement (around biological catalogue 1 and material 1 appears to be ideal)and change the portable fusion reactor ingredient to SEs RTG.

Ew ya the technology looks like it is stupid expensive with SE. I think if I just set it to requiring RTGs instead of fusion reactors that fixes the technology to be in a better place. Let me know how it looks in practice.

Yeap Portable Fusion reactors are way far down in the tech tree compared to the other part Avatars needed and when ideally you would be using the Avatars. I'm doing K2+SE but I think most if it on SE pushing fusion back.

Another Space Exploration compatibility that would be useful is being able to place a an Avatar Control Center on a space platform, right now they are only placeable on land. Ditto with the Avatar Remote Deployment Unit. Attempting to place either gives a message of "Cannot place ground vehicles in space", so it probably needs an API call to Space Exploration to register them as being allowed.

I looked into how Space Exploration limits vehicles on the platform, and it looks like it does it based on the name of the entity. So, I would need to change the name of the entity (or make a separate one for use in space) to make it work. The issue is that I'm not sure if Space Exploration does anything else with entities that have it's prefix in the name.

I'll look into it some more, but it may take quite a bit of digging to make sure there won't be weird side effects.

Suggestion - A building version of the ARDU (#notaprofessional, I think buildings are easier to enable placement in Orbit with Space Exploration, seen a few compat mods for it). Could name it ARDS - Avatar Remote Deployment Station or something. All it would be is a simple respawner and/or a remote placer for the Avatar (without being able to enter the building stuff).

Quick and dirty fix (lol) - sent a message off to Space Exploration suggestions, suggesting making it compatible with Avatars. XD

If space exploration had an interface to add vehicles in space then it would be a quick fix.

I do want to do something, I've just been trying to decide a good way to go about it without tying myself too closely to space exploration (since it's in constant development and likely will break whatever I do).

hmmm The vehicle thing is not easy to get around (lol i tried/trying).

Does the ARDU need to be a Vehicle to work?
I get the Controller does, but the only thing I can workout for the ARDU to be a vehicle as well, is an immersive thing. With being able to step out of it in the new body.

But I guess you would need to make it appear like something else. Like the Repair Turret mod I think mask's itself like a Roboport, otherwise I can't find any compatibility for it being build-able in Space.

Would changing their type from "car" to "locomotive" do anything?
I only ask because it looks like trains are allowed in space.

I assume a train would have to be placed on a rail, so that would make for weird placement.

I suppose I might be able to make it anything, and just spawn the car under it (since space exploration can't stop my mod from spawning vehicles unless they search for them or something strange)

I had a small discussion with Earendel, they are going to update Space Exploration to allow for vehicles that don't move to be place in space, so this should be fix on that end sooner or later.

Would it be possible to make the A.C.C. and the A.R.D.U. into actual buildings. This would make it easier to be placed in space as there is a way for mod's to whitelist buildings and can be blueprinted. The cargo silo in SE does this already so you can enter it to go into space (Likely by using a hidden vehicle).

Muhahahaha looks like my Quick and Dirty fix worked out, Space Explorations newest update -
"Structures that are actually cars are not blocked from space if their "effectivity" is 0."
Tested and ARDU's and ACC's can be placed in Orbit now.
