--Some notes here about resource usage comparisons - 1 coal = 1 iron ore = 1 copper = 10 petrol. You may weigh these resources different. Resources further down the chain are rated slightly higher.

Alternate concrete. Same base resources, but you could prod the iron plates to use slightly less
--In either case, trades higher power usage for a simpler supply chain.
ingredients = 5 "stone-brick", 1 "iron-plate", 100 "water"

Alt firearm magazine. Can only be made in assemblers, but cheaper by 1 iron plate. Prod modules could make even cheaper, if used on sticks. This is the best example of the idea - additional logistics needed to support the longer chain, but a good savings in resources for doing so. Needs first military tech.
ingredients = 2 "iron-plate", 2 "iron-stick"
temprec.category = "advanced-crafting"

Alt piercing mags. Takes an additional iron plus smelting time for steel. Also can't use possibly cheaper alt firearm mag recipe. SLIGHTLY faster than reg+pierce recipe time. I don't like this and the additional cost problem it has in expensive mode just makes me hate it more.
ingredients = 2 "steel-plate", 5 "copper-plate"

Alt uranium mags. Same disadvantages as altpierce recipe.
ingredients = 2 "steel-plate", 5 "copper-plate", "uranium-238"
time = 14

Alt shotgun shell. Similar to the alt magazine. Must be made in machine.
ingredients = 3 "iron-plate", 2 "copper-cable"

Alt piercing shell No real disadvantage over the normal recipe. Can't use the better alt-shotgun-shell though.
ingredients = 9 copper-plate", 4 "iron-plate", 2 "steel-plate"
time = 14

New recipe! Uranium shotgun shell.
ingredients = "piercing-shotgun-shell", "uranium-238"
time = 10

Alt fast inserter. No real disadvantage over normal
ingredients = 3 "iron-plate", 3 "electronic-circuit", 1 "iron-gear-wheel"
time = 1

Alt Stack inserter. Again, no real disadvantage.
normal =
ingredients = 16 "iron-gear-wheel, 18 electronic-circuit, 1 advanced-circuit, 4 iron-stick
time = 2,

expensive =
ingredients = 16 "iron-gear-wheel, 18 electronic-circuit, 1 advanced-circuit, 4 iron-stick
time = 2,

Alternate electronic circuits. 200+300 iron+copper= 280 circuits with 4 Prod3.
--Regular recipe has 240 left over cable with the same setup - much cheaper
altcirc = newrec("zalt-electronic-circuit","electronic-circuit",false,"electronics")
normal =
ingredients = 2 iron-plate, 3 copper-plate
time = 1
results = 2 "electronic-circuit"

expensive =
ingredients = 4 iron-plate, 8 copper-plate
time = 1,
results = 2 "electronic-circuit"

Alt Advanced Circuit. Similar to the electronic circuit - can't prod module cable production. It adds up.
normal =
time = 6,
ingredients = 2 electronic-circuit, 2 plastic-bar, 2 copper-plate
expensive =
time = 6,
ingredients = 2 electronic-circuit, 4 plastic-bar, 4 copper-plate

Alt processing unit. Takes all adv circuits instead of some basic and some advanced.
--Slightly more expensive in total resource usage, and more heavily weighted for plastic. Using prod modules with this MIGHT end up with fewer resources used, since you have more later intermediate stages with this.
--In Expensive, uses half the iron, slightly less than 3/4 the copper, but THREE TIMES the plastic. This IS a slight decrease in the resource amount and craft time, but requires more complicated ingredients.
normal =
time = 10,
ingredients = 6 advanced-circuit, 5 sulfuric-acid
expensive =
time = 10,
ingredients = 6 advanced-circuit, 10 sulfuric-acid

Alternate steel production using a new assembler style blast furnace.
normal =
time = 30,
ingredients = 4 iron-ore, 1 coal

expensive =
time = 60,
ingredients = 8 iron-ore, 2 coal

Alt storage tank. Same iron cost as the normal recipe.
normal =
time = 3
ingredients = 9 steel-plate

expensive =
time = 3
ingredients = 7 steel-plate

Alt Science 1+2. Saves 1 copper in normal mode, same cost in expensive (though more copper heavy). Ratios shouldn't have changed at all - 11 assembler 3s making these is 75/minute of both.
Requires: 1 assembling-machine-1, 1 fast-inserter
results = 4 automation-science-pack, 4 logistic-science-pack
time = 44

Alt boiler - used to recycle burner mining drills
expensive mode costs the same as making 4 boilers
ingredients = "burner-mining-drill",1,"stone",10,"iron-plate",2,
result = 4 "boiler"
normal mode costs 1 extra iron - 9 for the burner vs 8 for 2 boilers.
ingredients = "burner-mining-drill",1,"stone",5,
result = 2 "boiler"

Alt electric furnace from steel furnace for recycling. Same cost in materials + time as making it direct.
Requires: 4 steel-plate, 5 advanced-circuit, steel-furnace

Alt pipe to ground - steel instead of pipes to keep build time down. 15 iron in normal, 25 in expensive, same as regular recipe. MUCH faster, but needs steel processing.
Requires: 5 iron-plate, 2 steel-plate
time = 3

Alt module 2. Activated when level 3 researched, useful for simplifying that production. SLIGHTLY longer to build, but a much cleaner ratio for Level 3 production: 8:1. Speed+Prod+Efficiency have their own recipes.
Requires: "electronic-circuit",20,"advanced-circuit",25,"processing-unit",5
time = 96
