I don't think direct connections of surface and underwater pipes look pretty. Maybe leave only the connections with the underground version of the pipe? Or add an option like this
PS: the idea of the mod is awesome. Think about creating a "water infrastructure" like a water version of power poles (like in the cargo ships mod). Factorio's water space is completely unused and it would be great to fix that
