Re-balances recipes, technologies and ratios for a faster and smoother playthrough. Lessens the difficulty spikes of mid-game and end-game (but doesn't remove them!). Most overhaul mods add complexity, this one reduces it: an UNDERHAUL If you like Factorio but you ain't got time for the grinding, this mod is for you!

i Make defenders enabled by default again (not distractors and destroyers though)

Defenders are a great early game tool for clearing large biter nests in rampant, deathworld, and hive mind (smaller nests too but to a lesser extent as those arent as difficult to use gun turrets against) but nobody ever uses them cause they see military science required and get scared off (military science isnt even hard to spaghetti anyway so idk why people are so scared of it), once oil is obtained they are made obsolete by a giant flamer wall. now what happens if i dont spawn near any easy to access oil and need to kill some biter nests? defenders! seriously everyone really underestimates the power of these things, honestly almost on tier with flamers even with oil.

TL;DR: defenders are basically offensive flamers without oil and not a noob trap at all

I always start sing defenders when the research is complete - I don't know what you mean about ppl getting scared by military science research but if that's a thing, then people are just lazy - then again, I do take a long time to get to oil so maybe that's why I don't have that issue where I don't use defenders or research military... (I've gotten used to getting it since it was introduces back in 0.15 or 0.16 I think)

and I do agree - defenders are a great first support weapon ! and I use them well and for a long time until finally getting destroyers (sometimes I even combine them)
