Textureless: Retro Pixel Nostalgia

by kikiala

Downscales non-UI graphics to 1/8th size. This mod was made by hand in a flickering terminal using ffmpeg and bash, mostly.

b Remote view and transparency issues

Thanks for making the DLC optional. I was trying it with just the base game and found some issues:

  • remote view doesn't work: the screen just turns grey
  • the selection square for belts is not transparent (the same is true for pipes, but that is less important)
  • wires are partially invisible when horizontal - important for red and green wires

Thanks for the heads up on that. I'd been procrastinating, so I appreciate that you care!
Fixes to the build script in the works, almost done here and I will test locally. All that - easy fix, but I decided to also tune the visual.

New release is up

Thanks for the quick response and update! The issues I mentioned are gone, it even fixed the black background that legacy (straight) rail had.

Though now (or I didn't notice it earlier) inserters (all types) have weird shadows (black lines) that jump about when they move. Only if the inserters point to the right it seems normal. It looks pretty funny when they move.

Huh! I can look into it sometime, but I"m so tired haha. Thanks for your care. I hope you enjoy the mod.

There are a number of entities such as inserters and other things which are constructed out of geometry that is animated rather than just a sprite, so they will always look strange a little, but what you describe may be addressable, so thanks. Though I don't feel super urgent to push right now, maybe later today or tomorrow.

Thank you Yodo9001, it is kind of you to care for my silly mod. For me I love it, and I'm glad you find it also fun :)

Thanks for calling it out. New release up, but I had to just exclude all inserters. I spent a few hours chasing the shadow textures, but they're doing something different. My headache is bad enough today that this is a cope fix lol. I think it's fine though, item icons were already excluded, so it fits within the "important gameplay elements can be higher resolution" conceptual design. As well, I remembered to exclude combinators. Should be usable now. Thanks.

It's funny, the reason I didn't notice that when I had more energy last couple releases was because there is an option for inserter shadows I had turned off. :)
