Team Starts Expanded

Give each team its own planetary home and room to grow in Factorio 2.1 and Space Age.

An unofficial fork of Team Starts for Multiplayer by RedRafe, maintained by marckskl.

Full planet sets for every team

Full team systems is enabled by default. Each team receives its own copies of:

  • Nauvis
  • Vulcanus
  • Fulgora
  • Gleba
  • Aquilo

Installed modded planet definitions and their routes are also copied when available during this mod's final-fixes stage. Teams retain separate research and forces, and do not automatically merge when reaching an expansion planet.

Planet labels keep their original localized names with a team suffix, such as Nauvis (Team 1). Non-planet destinations, including the solar-system edge, remain shared; other teams' planets remain locked.

Configuration

Set these options under Settings → Mod settings → Startup before creating a game:

  • Universe layout: Full team systems (default), or Legacy shared universe.
  • Universe scale: Small = 9 teams; Medium = 18; Large = 27.
  • Home planet prototype: nauvis by default. An overhaul that replaces Nauvis needs its internal starting-planet name.

With the five vanilla Space Age planets, these scales add 45, 90 or 135 team planets respectively, plus the original planets for the global team. Factorissimo factory interiors are additional hidden planets.

Use the Team Manager to join or switch teams.

Factorissimo compatibility

Factorissimo is optional. The full-system mode has been tested with Factorissimo 3.12.3, including borehole pumps on all five vanilla planet copies and their factory interiors. Pumps receive the appropriate water, lava, heavy oil or ammoniacal-solution recipe for the parent planet.

The compatibility handler uses the associated planet rather than relying on the surface name. Unknown custom planet fluids are not inferred.

Requirements and save compatibility

  • Requires Factorio 2.1 and Space Age.
  • Start a new save. This fork does not migrate saves from the original Team Starts or earlier local test packages.
  • Disable the original team-starts mod; the two mods cannot run together.
  • Do not switch universe layouts or reduce the scale on an existing save. Removing planet prototypes can remove their surfaces.

Legacy mode retains the original shared-expansion and automatic team-merging rules. The full-system Factorissimo tests do not certify Factorissimo behavior in Legacy mode.

Compatibility and testing

Automated checks passed in Factorio 2.1.23 with Space Age and Factorissimo 3.12.3 for full-system map creation, separate team discovery, borehole recipes on all five vanilla planet types and their five interiors, and save reload followed by 120 updates. Legacy map creation without Factorissimo and Lua 5.2 regression checks also passed.

This is the initial release of this fork. Extended multiplayer playtesting and visual UI review remain. Mods that hard-code planet names, create planets after this mod's final-fixes stage, use scripted unlocks or implement custom endgame conditions may need specific compatibility work.
