(i think ) Kitsone is suggesting that the Devs designed the thruster with crossed transfer of fluids specifically to add "complexity/uniqueness" to the aesthetics of platform design. because with it passing fluids in parallel, all designs will look the same, and that requiring them to be staggered adds "interest"
But really, all it does is force players into V or M shapes for rocket layout, or a ton of piping-mess. I don't really see the current (vanilla) thruster as being "trolly" but can understand/agree with people who do think so.
My suggestion would be to "duplicate" the thruster's prototype completely, add a later-game research to unlock it, and make it's crafting a bit more expensive to "balance" the simplicity it adds to platform design.
