Eneas as a mod is meant as a kind of "vanilla +" expansion of factorio, that is supposed to bring in various loose ends and provide a satisfying mid-late game experience with a proper ending to the story.
You can explore Eneas as soon as you make rockets, and you will find an overgrown world which houses the ancient ruins of a long gone civilization. Right in the middle you meet a broken supercomputer that once controlled this planet, and you can help restore it.
To do that you must travel to all of the vanilla space age planet and using a new item chain called "data cards" collect data on these planets to ship them back to Eneas, alongside other essential intermediates. Eneas is meant to become a "hubworld", that is the center of all interplanetary logistics and features new crafting puzzles both on Eneas aswell as all other vanilla planets. At the same time, this content is meant to run parallel with vanilla progression, that means you dont loose out on any vanilla content, you just get new shiny toys if you choose to engage with it + upon completition of certain technologies, the supercomputer will drop lore and information about the engineer race and the vanilla space age planets
For one example of a new mechanic, the new "gleba data" will force players to craft a new type of highly volatile nutrient with a short half life that decomposes into a dangerous spoilage that has to be disposed quickly before harming the factory. As a twist the data card uses the volatile spoilage as an ingredient, so you have to precisely time when and how much of the nutrients you will let spoil so you can quickly turn them into data before they expire and release some negative effect upon the factory. You can expect every vanilla planet to have atleast one of these new mechanics that puts a spin on the existing crafting recipes without gating any vanilla content behind it.
Eneas is already well into development, if youre interested you can check out the "the foundry" discord server where I post some development updates from time to time!
