Solar Calculator

Adds a solar power calculator that can calculate how much power your solar panels provide on average. Or calculate how many panels and accumulators you need to provide the desired power. Supports modded panels and accumulators, quality and DLC planets (future Space Exploration update to 2.0 most likely won't work)

i Add better SE support

I quite enjoy this mod, and the support for SE is nice, but it is also a little limited.

  • You can't calculate solar for planets you haven't been to yet.
  • The zone list contains a bunch of SE internal surfaces, like pyramids.
  • There's no support for steam batteries as an accumulator option.

Broadly, I see why the selector is a list of surfaces rather than a list of SE Zones, because otherwise it's quite SE-dependent. That being said, a tickbox or mod setting to change this to display SE Zones over Factorio surfaces would be appreciated.

Meanwhile on the steam battery (electric boiler -> 500 degree steam in a tank -> steam turbine) front, this is an increasingly popular option to replace accumulators in SE, due to their vastly increased capacity handling the often very high day/night cycles on SE planets far better than accumulators. It would be nice if the mod could be extended to handle things like tanks/eboilers/steam turbines/water loss for a steam battery.

Sorry for the late reply, I stopped playing Factorio a long time ago.

  1. When I looked into this, there was no way to get surface parameters from SE planets you had not visited. As I recall, there was an API call to SE to get planet parameters, but surprisingly it did not include solar power ratio. I even joined the SE Discord and asked for this to be implemented, but unfortunately they didn't.

  2. This probably could have been easily fixed, but I never reached the end game content of SE, so I just didn't care.

  3. Yes, I thought about it, but there are also solar collectors and various other ways to get steam, so I thought it would be incomplete to just implement steam batteries without those other things, so I decided to ignore it at the time.

If I finally get to release an updated version of this mod with new GUI, I may be adding this features later.
