i Please make it optional

Hi, please make this one optional and not a required dependencies or add a setting to disable it in game.

I second that, that raised a lot of questions to my friends in the server i am hosting.

Yes. This required dependency is stupid. And now to remove all of your mods.

(updated a month ago)

Yes. this as a required dependency is stupid. I don't need to be informed that your mods have updates.
If I have one installed, the mod page will tell me there's an update, I don't need you to do it for me.
Uninstalling your mods now

@Schuby there is a setting under player settings

@Focsy i suppose in addition to the per player setting that existed from the start i could also add one for server admins to flat out disable it, ill look into adding that later today

@daz96050 "If I have one installed, the mod page will tell me there's an update"

you're missing the point, this mod is not to alert people to updates to mods they have already installed, but to easily discover which other (quality of life) mods i have to offer which may have been harder to find

Player settings require ppl on my server to do it themself, at this points it already to late and I get multiple DMs what the objective is and how to get rid of it. Beside that some ppl try to install stuff <.< I need to hide this fully ingame. While the option to disable it for server admins is good, just make it optional and let ppl decide on there own to get informed or not. I feel this is forced on me and thats never a good sign.

unfortunately there's no way to mark a dependency as "optional & does not affect load order", I'll still be adding the server setting so it'll help those that haven't ran into it (yet)

Glad I am not alone in uninstalling your mods for forcing a "newsletter" to even use a mod of yours... Not even sure the thought process to think it would be fine, shrug

Does this need to be loaded before your other mods?
In the thread you linked you are talking about other existing and functional ones…

I'd also like to have this dependency removed as I currently only use one of your mods and alternatives for that are available. If forced to update and install a dependency I'll just uninstall it instead (I rather keep my game with as few mods as possible, with just a very selected few)

can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs, felt like i had to give this a go to bridge the gap in functionality, as mentioned there isn't currently a way to make it optional and not touching the mod order, and looking into potentially scrapping the entire objective mechanic vs adding world/server settings to just surpress it, it would make it harder to discover/notice the shortcut but it'll be even less in your face

I can easily discover which other mods you offer simply by clicking your name and seeing a full list of them on this site. I think this dependency is seen as forced advertising and sadly, I too will be removing the two great mods of yours that I used that now depend on it. Such a shame really.

@pekapa fair point, I'm used to having tens to easily a hundred mods active on a save so I've gotten a bit blind to the appeal of a short mod list, mind if i ask which one of my mods you're currently using?

@Odepane refreshing to hear that you don't find going through my many mod pages bothersome, i falsely assumed people wouldn't bother to flip past pages of 1.1 mods

since none of my 2.0 mods are currently "super load order fragile" I'll be marking this mod as optional as there is large demand for it, i just hope im not shooting my future self in the foot by doing so, but it'll be worth keeping people in the present, expect a reversal update in a few hours since now its 4:30 in the morning and i couldn't sleep, my apologies for causing such a stir and i hope it won't impact future usage & enjoyment of my mods - Quez

I agree, IDK why I needed this nonsense.

there's no need to continue commenting on how it should be optional instead of ~ required, it'll be done in a few hours

Don't worry, you're doing great things here. You only meant well. I looked at it. The term newsletter is a bit unfortunate. Nobody likes (automatic, unwanted) newsletters, but that's not the case with this mod. I personally think a shortcut button is okay, but many of those who write here probably haven't read the description that far...

yeah i picked the name for this mod like 9 months ago, newsletter might not have been the best name for it :D

the mod is now properly marked as optional, the objective/goal & setting have been removed, and thanks for all the kind feedback :)

(updated a month ago)

I really appreciate you reconsidering the requirement. I am very grateful for the time and effort you put in to creating the mods that make the game so much better. I have re-installed what I was previously using. Thank you.

which mods were you using? :)

I was (and am again) using "i'd like cliffs on nauvis please" and the absolutely heavenly "lane balancers". I will spend a little more time today looking at your other offerings as well.

thank you Quezler for this change. was not a fan of this change....but your MODS are great. and thk you again to make it optional

👍

@quezler, thanks for reconsidering,
the mod I'm currently using is to hide the minimap when I'm in space

I also don't have a big problem going trough many pages of mods (done that many times before), but maybe you can have modpacks and group related mods together (you have many for space exploration and other overhaul related ones, for example) and then in the mods descriptions you can always just reference to the modpacks so it helps organizing and discovering relevant ones

thanks for the suggestion

|all i have to say is just STOP Whining about it, its News Updates information.... Its not FORCED on anyone. Mod Author wants to keep people updated and this make it easyer for him. I have FND While its Simular in someways to ADHD< i assume that memory loss in a major way is maybe part of it, so Keeping track of stuff is hard.. so instead of getting rid of all the mods.. instead think... from the other side... where you might be in there shoes....

-.- I signed in to post just.

The thing is, initially it was forced to download to even run mods Quezler makes (which are awesome), but if I am forced to download something about other mods to run a mod, no thanks, that is just my opinion (and others obviously). Now that it is optional, people have no reason to complain. As for the other mods, I scroll through the mod list here and there to see what is new, and/or if I come across something that I think maybe a mod could do better, I go hunting for it, don't need something telling me about other mods, that's all. Anyways moot point now and thank you for changing your mind Quezler
