Mechanicist Factorio
Mechanicist Factorio is a thematic language and presentation overhaul for Factorio 2.0, built to translate the familiar factory-building experience into something darker, stranger, more bureaucratic, and substantially more machine-cult adjacent.
At its simplest, this mod renames and reframes large portions of the base game so that belts, inserters, furnaces, laboratories, technologies, science packs, Space Age systems, Quality mechanics, and compatible mod integrations feel like they belong inside a grim industrial manufactorum rather than a polite engineering sandbox.
Under the hood, the goal is compatibility. Mechanicist Factorio preserves vanilla prototype names wherever possible so other mods can still recognize default Factorio items, recipes, technologies, and entities. The visible language may become devotional, absurd, and heavily sanctified, but the internal machinery remains boring, stable, and interoperable.
What It Does
Mechanicist Factorio currently focuses on player-facing text and thematic presentation.
It includes:
- Base-game item, entity, recipe, technology, fluid, and interface retheming
- Startup settings for language intensity
- Standard Mechanist and Full Heresy naming layers
- Space Age support with full Red Priest of Mars energy
- Quality support reframed as sanctity grades, inspection rites, and reclamation doctrine
- Informatron documentation pages explaining Factorio mechanics through increasingly unhinged Mechanicus instructional doctrine
- Optional compatibility hooks for supported mods
- Conditional guidance for mods such as Rampant Fixed
- A deeply suspicious warning system for Orky Business users
Language Intensity
The mod includes three primary language modes:
Off
Leaves most vanilla prototype names alone.
Standard Mechanist
A readable industrial retheme. The factory becomes a manufactorum, science becomes doctrine, automation becomes ritualized production, and the Machine God begins gently tapping on the glass.
Full Heresy
The Red Priests have entered the control room. Every belt is a sacred artery. Every inserter is a blessed manipulator arm. Every shortage is a moral failing. Every machine has a spirit, every spirit requires appeasement, and the tooltip is now giving you a sermon.
Space Age Support
If Space Age is enabled, Mechanicist Factorio treats the expansion as sacred void logistics.
Space platforms become orbital reliquaries. Vulcanus becomes a furnace-world of red iron. Gleba becomes a xeno-agri deathworld of rot and yield. Fulgora becomes a lightning-haunted tomb-forge of salvage and forbidden relics. Aquilo becomes a cryo-shrine of punishment where heat is faith and logistics are survival.
This layer is intentionally intense. Space Age does not receive a polite “standard” mode. If the Red Priests are going to sanctify interplanetary industry, they are going to sanctify all of it.
Quality Support
Quality is rethemed as a system of sanctity grades, inspection rites, blessed output, rejected matter, and sacred reclamation.
The recycler becomes a machine of judgment. Quality modules become instruments of certification. High-quality equipment becomes relic-grade hardware. The factory is no longer merely producing items; it is submitting matter to inspection by hostile priests with clipboards, incense, and no sense of humor.
Informatron Support
Mechanicist Factorio includes Informatron pages that explain both the mod and Factorio itself.
These guides begin with practical explanations, then progressively become full Mechanicus doctrine: how to mine, smelt, automate, defend, research, expand, use trains, manage robots, survive Space Age, understand Quality, and endure compatible enemy mods without disgracing the Omnissiah.
New players should be able to learn from it.
Experienced players should be able to laugh at it.
The Machine God will judge both.
Compatibility Philosophy
Mechanicist Factorio is designed to alter the surface language and experience of Factorio while preserving internal compatibility wherever possible.
The mod generally tries to avoid destructive prototype replacement. Instead, it points existing vanilla prototypes toward Mechanist-themed localized names and descriptions. This allows other mods to continue interacting with vanilla keys while players see the grim industrial devotional layer on top.
Some total conversion or heavy technology-tree restructuring mods may be marked incompatible where they overlap too aggressively with Mechanicist Factorio’s planned progression changes.
Current Status
This is an early-development thematic framework. The current focus is language, presentation, settings, Informatron documentation, and compatibility scaffolding.
Future development may expand into:
- deeper recipe retheming
- technology progression adjustments
- optional compatibility pages
- more Space Age and Quality coverage
- stronger integration with selected mods
- additional Mechanicus-style instructional warnings
- further descent into holy industrial nonsense
Final Note
Mechanicist Factorio is not an official Warhammer or Warhammer 40,000 product. It is a fan-made thematic parody and industrial retheme inspired by grimdark machine-cult aesthetics, bureaucratic absurdity, and the sacred truth that every factory eventually becomes a cathedral if you add enough pipes, smoke, and bad decisions.
Praise the Machine.
Feed the belts.
Appease the inserters.
Do not ask why the lab is chanting.(wip) I very much want to add mechanicus chanting sounds to the laboratories...
