Funny enough I did the work before I look at issue on this but here what I have done, https://mods.factorio.com/mod/LabOMatic, thus my mod it's an upgrade of the lab, it's doesn't replace the skin of the lab.
If you want original mod for 2.0 it's trivial. Just change version in info.json
