You could add this as a equipment item locked behind some technology research for vehicle grid that could be equipped or not and that way we could have this on certain vehicles of our choosing
I like the suggestion. Another thing I was considering is just adding a hotkey for this, so you can toggle it whenever you want. That should also be considerably easier to implement. I'll add it to the TODO list. Thanks for using my mod! :)
