Well, I'm sure it would be possible somehow...
The key reason why this is not a good idea here is performance - it's the reason the bots are this dumb in the first place. If they had to check for things like this, they'll end up like the biters, which are notoriously slow (and even they will happily run into fire, come to think of it).
