What is the relationship to the original Disco Science mod?

Disco Science Lite is a variant of the original Disco Science mod.

Is it safe to add or remove this mod in mid-game?

Yes. It is safe.

Some labs are colorized with a glowing effect instead of a flat color. Why?

That is a fallback behavior for unsupported labs.

You can disable this feature by the Mod Setting Automatic colorization for unsupported mods.

Detail: To colorize a lab without glowing, an image file of the exact shape for the lab is required. The supported mods have built-in images that fit to their shape properly. For labs without the images, this mod uses the general glowing effect for colorization by default.

Why does a mod that supports the original Disco Science not work with Disco Science Lite?

That may be because the mod checks for the original Disco Science by the explicit mod name (DiscoScience). Disco Science Lite has a different mod name (disco-science-lite), so the mod cannot detect it.
