Yes the thought came to my mind, but the mod didn't get that much attention. (this way it was easy to be vanilla compatible) I am happy to upgrade it!
Probably easiest solution is to support a list of planets and if they are installed, have the player a checkbox in startup options.
Do you have a list of Planets in mind that could benefit?
