What is Bitey?
Bitey is a Factorio mod that lets you adopt a biter as a loyal pet companion.
Do I need Space Age to use Bitey?
No. Bitey takes advantage of Space Age features if available, but works fine in the base game.
How do I find Bitey?
He should spawn within a few minutes of loading the game. The source of the roar you heard will be marked with a ❌ on your map.
How do I befriend Bitey?
He's lost, hungry, and alone. Feeding him is the fastest way to earn his trust.
How do I feed Bitey?
Drop food near him while he's hungry and he'll eat it.
What does Bitey eat?
He loves fish, but he'll also eat seeds, eggs, and other nutritious items. Not all foods benefit him equally. Watch his biological needs to see how different foods affect him. With Space Age installed, higher‑quality foods have stronger effects.
How do I control Bitey?
He has a mind of his own, but once he chooses to follow you, he can be given simple commands like Guard and Follow.
How do I give Bitey water?
After unlocking Fluid Handling, he may become thirsty. Drop barreled water on the ground to hydrate him. Certain solid foods can also hydrate Bitey.
How do I get Bitey to stop following me?
Left‑click him to open the pet interface. There you can toggle his behavior, view his needs, and give him a new name.
How do I cure Bitey's boredom?
He gets bored if ignored for too long. If he becomes very frustrated, he may damage part of your factory to get your attention. Feed him, pet him (right‑click), involve him in combat, or play fetch to lift his spirits.
How do I play fetch with Bitey?
Drop a piece of wood. If he trusts you, he will bring it back. Bitey may not want to play if he's tired or overstimulated.
Can Bitey help me clear trees?
Yes. After enough fetch sessions, he learns to chop down trees. If a tree is flagged for deconstruction and he isn't exhausted, he'll help remove it.
Why won't Bitey sleep when he's tired?
Make sure he isn't starving. Nobody likes going to bed hungry, not even Bitey.
Does Bitey ever grow bigger?
Yes. Like other biters, he responds to pollution. If he's well‑fed and happy, he may molt and grow. With enough care, he can outgrow even the largest wild biters.
What is morph?
Morph tracks his evolution toward becoming either a biter or a spitter. Certain foods influence this progression.
Does changing species reset Bitey's growth?
No. His size, stats and memories persist. A behemoth remains a behemoth, regardless of species.
Why is Bitey trying to warn me about something?
Although rejected by the hive, he is still very much connected to it. If a biter attack party is preparing to strike, he may sense it and warn you.
Can Bitey help me in a fight?
He will always try to defend you, but he's the runt of the litter and not invincible. If badly hurt, he will flee. With enough care, he can become surprisingly strong.
Can I buff Bitey?
Science vials have unusual chemical effects on him. Results may vary.
Can I take Bitey to another planet?
Yes. He'll follow you when you travel. Just remember he still needs food, even on a frozen wasteland. This behavior may change in the future, but for now he has crippling abandonment issues.
Bitey died. How do I go on?
Loss is hard. There are always other orphaned biters who may find their way to you. Give yourself time. Another friend may appear someday.
What is a Biter Memorial?
If you cared for Bitey deeply, you may unlock Grief Processing, which allows you to build a memorial to honor your fallen companion.
What are these things growing around the memorial?
They mean Bitey must have loved you very much.
What do I do if I encounter a bug?
Please report it on the Discussions page or open an issue on GitHub. Bitey is the only bug you're supposed to encounter in this mod.
What if I have a suggestion for a new Bitey feature?
