Inspired by Satisfactory's alternate recipes, I added a similar system to Factorio to add more variety to each playthrough.
There is a new research chain that opens up after Logistic Science where each research unlocks a random alternate recipe of an item you have already unlocked (from a predefined list). Research is cancelled if no new research is available. Research gets more expensive after each unlocked recipe.
Currently there are only 20 new recipes, but new recipes will get added (Join the discord https://discord.gg/uDmpkQUPZ9 for suggestions).
If there is enough demand I will add support for overhaul mods.
Mod is currently in alpha, existing recipes might get modified or removed later. Use with caution.
