i [Resolved] Movement speed enable threshold?

Hello there!

First, thank you again for this mod. After updating and using this again on an earlier save, I realized that the only time I have need to toggle this on/off really is during the early game rather than the late game.

This seems only because slowing yourself down for smaller movements in the early game just isn't needed as you are already slow enough.

Anyway, not sure if it is feasible, but is there a way to be able to set a threshold to only enable the mod if the character movement speed is >=X ? This would allow me to not have to worry about toggling this off/on at all, and only have it begin to throttle movement speed later in the game when the character speed begins to make smaller precise movements more difficult.

Thanks

When you say "toggle on/off", do you mean when you start running it gradually "toggles on" or do you mean the button that allows you to enable/disable the mod?

What it sounds like to me is that early in the game, you'll want to always be running faster when you're in the early game, you could try setting the speed up time to 0.1, and seeing if that's what you like. Then once you want the adaptive stuff to kick in, you can just set it back to something like 5.

You can also set the base speed to something above 100% in the early game, if that's what you want.

It's not entirely clear what you're asking, but perhaps that'd suffice?

In short, I was thinking of a way to prevent having to toggle this mod on/off or adjust settings as your movement speed increases throughout gameplay.

e.g. setting a threshold for running speed, the mod begins to throttle your acceleration as it does, but only after you begin to run faster than the specified threshold.

However, going over your reply and looking back at the settings I'm beginning to think I have misunderstood the settings. Can you really configure this mod to allow you to run over "top speed" (100%) ?

Yes, that's what the per player setting "base speed" is for.

If you set it to 200%, it'll just flat out run at 200%, unless you toggle the mod off with the button on the hotbar or the keyboard shortcut.

It is still subject to the global limits set by the per map settings. But those are mostly there for multiplayer, to prevent people from setting their movement speed to 10000% or something.

Wow. How did I never realize this mod could make you run faster than your vanilla max speed? =/

I dunno, too many mods installed with too many settings to notice it :)? It's why I put screenshots of the settings in the mod images, so you can see it at a glance.

Possibly. I also pulled this mod in when it was first released and I haven't had need to come back to the mod page too often. ;)

Quick note: "Disable upon taking damage(s)" and it's hover text aren't very clear on what this does. What does the number in the field do? What units is it in? Default is 4. Does this disable the mod for 4 seconds after taking damage?

Hmm, I'll look into improving the description (the unit is mentioned in the name, it's indeed seconds). But yes, it'll set the movement speed back to the default for 4 seconds but only for the player that took the damage.

This is a relatively new feature I added, to prevent this mod from unbalancing combat too much.

That is a nice feature. Just wasn't clear to me what "(s)" was. I thought it was a possible plural of "damage." shrug
