It does, but you have to manually put the ammo into a turret once, for it to recognize the custom ammo.

I saw in your code you choose the best ammo, and list 3 which are standard ones. Could you get that list from a config file instead, and then we could just edit the config to add new, mod'd ammo types for auto pickup ?

I already have a way of using mod'd ammo. You just have to manually insert it once, like in the gif linked below, and it will be added to a list of ammo to auto insert for that game.
