Adds a second space map view that can be reached by zooming out all the way from a planet or a ship. It's largely identical to the original space map, but has some extra features like zooming into planets or ships, rendering each ship's actual shape and various graphical enhancements.
Providing the player with new tools or adjusting the game interface, without fundamentally changing gameplay.
Version: 0.2.9
Date: 2026-10-30
Changes:
- The docked-ship panel no longer has a title bar, close button or drag handle, and it
opens beside the count instead of at the mouse.
- A docked-ship popup (panel or list) stays open wherever the mouse goes and closes on a
click outside it, so its scrollbar can be dragged freely.
- Panning or zooming the star map closes an open docked-ship popup.
- The "Open popup on hover" setting is no longer offered: docked-ship popups open on a
click.
- The ship hover panel now shows the whole ship, framed the way the game's own Space map
frames it, for travelling and docked ships; very large ships show as the map view, as in
the game's own panel.
- Ghost foundation (planned but unbuilt platform tiles) now counts toward the framing of the
ship hover panel and the docked-ship panel, which update as ghosts are placed or removed.
- Zooming in on a planet's docked-ship count enters a ship: the one you last looked at
there, or the first ship in the panel. Zooming out of a ship in the count and straight
back in returns to that ship.
- Entering a planet from the star map lands at your planet zoom-out limit with the place
you last looked at under the mouse; on a first visit your cargo landing pad, or 0,0 if
there is no pad.
Version: 0.2.8
Date: 2026-10-25
Changes:
- Settings that offered bare numbers now offer words or steps: hover glow width and
brightness, thruster flame intensity and length, sun intensity and animation speed
read as words ("Normal" is the default); the ship and planet zoom-out settings read as
steps from the default and the map view switches as steps out from their first point
("+" is further out).
- Clearer names for the ship and planet zoom-out settings and the planet map view switch.
- These eight settings return to their defaults once after updating.
- Ships can now turn into map view when you scroll far enough out, like vanilla, and keep
going in map view until "Ship: zoom out to star map at" opens the star map.
- New player setting "Ship: switch to map view at" (default +3): +0 keeps the game's own
point, +1 to +9 are fixed points, each one wheel step further out; map view needs the
point two steps or more closer in than "Ship: zoom out to star map at", otherwise the
ship stays in normal view until the star map opens, as it does at the defaults.
- The ship marker softening and outline smoothing settings are gone; markers are always
softened and smoothed.
- "Docked ship display mode" now defaults to "Ships, then count".
- The mod is now licensed under GPL-3.0-only (was GPL-2.0-only).
- "Open popup on hover" is now off by default: click a planet's docked-ship count to open
its popup.
- In "Ships, then count" the docked-ship panel shows only the ships folded into the count,
not the ones already shown around the planet; the other modes still show every ship.
- Planets and ships leave for the star map at their zoom-out setting in either view
(with "Planet zoom entry" on).
- The "Platform early exit" setting is gone: zooming out of a ship with the cursor off to
one side now runs all the way to the ship's zoom-out setting instead of leaving early.
Bugfixes:
- Pressing the map key on a ship and then switching to another ship could leave remote view
on planets stuck out of map view; saves already affected recover when loaded.
Optimizations:
- Less script work every tick: ship markers and the planet icons on the star map are only
updated while someone is looking at it, and the sun animation, the ship hover panel and
the zoom checks skip work that would change nothing.
- Hovering things in the factory, building and destroying no longer runs star map code.
- Loading a save after updating the mod rebuilds the star map several times faster.
Version: 0.2.7
Date: 2026-10-24
Features:
- New player setting "Planet map view switch" (default Vanilla): how far out remote view
on a planet stays in the normal view before it turns into the map, in mouse wheel steps
down to 0.0156. It applies to every remote view on a planet; the map key still opens
at the game's own zoom.
Changes:
- Requires Factorio 2.1.23 (base and Space Age).
Bugfixes:
- Planets, moons, orbits and routes follow the map origins and route shapes mods can set
since Factorio 2.1.20, so modded layouts (e.g. PlanetsLib moons) match the space map.
- With "Zoom towards the cursor" turned off, zooming out of a planet or ship lands
centred, and scrolling on a ship no longer drops to the starmap on the first step.
Version: 0.2.6
Date: 2026-10-22
Features:
- The starmap is listed in the remote view surfaces list by default, as "Star map", the
first row under Planets. Removing the mod now removes the starmap surface as well.
- New map setting "Hide the starmap from the surfaces list" (off by default). It replaces
0.2.5's "Show the starmap surface in the surfaces list" setting.
- New player setting "Sun effects" (Off / Subtle / Full, default Full, the previous look),
alongside the sun intensity and sun animation speed settings.
- New player settings "Platform zoom-out cutoff" (default 0.125) and "Planet zoom-out
cutoff" (default 0.0124): how far out you can zoom on a platform or a planet before
the view switches to the starmap. Both list zoom steps of the mouse wheel.
Changes:
- The mod settings are grouped by theme in both tabs: navigation first, then the starmap
view, docked ships, ship markers, engine plumes, the sun and planets.
- "Ship marker pixel snap" is now a map setting; a value set in 0.2.5 resets to its
default.
- Debug mode and the fine sun controls are no longer in the settings menu.
- Internal test tooling improvements; no change to how the mod plays.
Version: 0.2.5
Date: 2026-10-21
Features:
- New map setting "Docked ships ignore routes" (off by default). Turned on, docked-ship
markers may sit over the routes that meet a planet, so a planet many routes meet shows
more ships before the rest fold into the count.
- New map setting "Show the starmap surface in the surfaces list" (off by default). The
starmap surface is now hidden from the remote view surfaces list, and stays hidden if
the mod is removed. Picking the starmap from that list needs the setting on; zooming
out onto the starmap works either way.
Bugfixes:
- A planet's docked-ship count no longer touches the planet's ring; the planet name moves
out with it.
- Merging forces no longer leaves the removed force's planet labels visible to everyone.
- Save data no longer keeps growing with deleted ships, or with renamed or deleted
surfaces.
- A ship's map marker no longer keeps a stale shape when the ship loses tiles while
its marker is being redrawn.
- A player rejoining a multiplayer game with a docked-ship panel open no longer
desyncs the game.
Optimizations:
- Ship markers on the starmap update at about half the previous cost, and the sun
animation is cheaper.
Changes:
- Internal test tooling improvements; no change to how the mod plays.
Version: 0.2.4
Date: 2026-10-20
Changes:
- Internal cleanup of the mod's code and test tooling; no intended change to how the mod
looks or plays.
Version: 0.2.3
Info:
- The mod is licensed under GPL-2.0-only; the licence text ships as LICENSE.
Features:
- Hovering a planet's docked-ship count opens its docked-ship popup straight away, and
it closes shortly after the cursor leaves both the count and the popup. The
hover-opened panel has no title bar.
- New per-player setting "Open popup on hover" (on by default); turn it off to get
click-to-open and click-again-to-close back.
Gui:
- Docked-ship panels match the game's blueprint-library styling, with even borders on
every side.
- Ship names in the docked-ship panel stay on one line with more room, and the ship
views grow into the space that frees up.
Graphics:
- Ship markers are drawn bevelled, lit from the top left, and their stair-stepped
edges are smoothed into straight diagonals. New map settings "Ship marker bevel"
and "Smooth ship marker outlines" (both on by default) switch each off again.
- A travelling ship's engine flames follow its actual thrusters: thrusters standing
close together share one wide flame, separate ones keep their own, instead of up
to four grouped flames that could bunch on one side.
- Vanilla platform markers trail an engine flame too, from the back of the triangle.
- Flames burn hotter with speed: dim red when slow, bright yellow-white at full
speed, and a little longer, never wider.
- New map settings "Thruster flame intensity" (lower keeps flames redder and dimmer),
"Thruster flame length" (shorter by default) and "Accurate thruster placement"
(off draws one simple flame at the back of the ship). The "Engine plume" setting
is now "Thruster flames" and switches every flame off.
- Ships with a symmetric thruster layout trail symmetric flames.
- Thruster flames flicker slightly, each out of step with its neighbours.
- A row of thrusters trails a rounded plume, longest in its middle.
Version: 0.2.2
Features:
- The docked-ship popup is a scrolling panel of ship cards, each with a live view of
the ship framed to its size. The plain list stays available through the "Docked
ship popup" setting.
- New per-player setting "Hide ship-card alerts" hides the warning icons on the ship
cards while the panel is open.
Changes:
- The docked-ship count always sits in front of the planet's name, a little further
from it; the setting that could move it was removed.
- Docked ships spread around their planet's ring, leaving the arcs where routes
arrive clear.
Optimizations:
- A ship's starmap marker catches up with a change to its hull much sooner (a large
ship went from about 1.3 s to under 0.4 s).
Version: 0.2.1
Graphics:
- Routes are drawn as smooth arcs and orbits and planet rings as true circles. Routes
no longer thin out and vanish at far zoom, and orbits no longer break into gaps
next to planets.
Bugfixes:
- Hovering a planet no longer flashes the game's selection brackets for a frame.
- Parts of a ship joined to the rest only at a corner are now part of its marker.
Optimizations:
- Tracing a ship whose foundation touches only at corners no longer falls back to a
costly scan of the whole platform surface.
Version: 0.2.0
Features:
- Scrolling in at the starmap's closest zoom over a planet or ship now enters it,
instead of doing nothing.
Compatibility:
- Checked against the planet mods Secretas and Paracelsin, whose planets sit beyond
Aquilo.
