The Island Start mod (https://mods.factorio.com/mod/IslandStart) works with the standard noise functions for generating terrain and has more consistent performance and map preview behavior as a result. Just in case you hadn't seen that alternative (and updated) mod!

Thank you for the information. Island Start is also a good option for an island play through. It is very nice, that the islands are generated from the start.

But it is also why i like the RepeatingIslands more. In RepeatingIslands there are a lot more islands generated. It does encourage exploration for ressources. This does also does force to you to build connections between islands and set up outposts.

Island Start is definatly a valid alternative. The choice does basicly boil down to one's own preferences.
