Sorry I typoed the title. There are trees growing around my space platform at the edge of the map. This is the only tree related mod I have and I have no content mods installed.

Well this should not be possible as by default this mod only applies to Nauvis and does not do anything with other surfaces (i.e. planets or space). Can you show the configuration you are using?

Also trees need to spread from existing trees, they don't spawn out of nowhere.

hhmm not sure but maybe one of your other tree related mods is doing it? Could you see if it still happens with only my tree mod?
