No Dead Trees
Keep your forests green β and plant entire forests without planting every tree by hand. π³
In Space Age, trees grown from tree seeds behave like natural trees: they grow, absorb pollution, and help clean the environment. However, heavy pollution can eventually cause them to lose their leaves and become dead-looking.
No Dead Trees keeps player-planted trees green while preserving their normal growth and pollution absorption. It also adds a dedicated tree planting tool that lets you plan forests across large areas and have construction robots plant them using seeds from your logistic network.
Features
π³ Protect Planted Trees
Player-planted trees are protected from pollution damage that would normally cause them to lose their leaves and turn grey.
Protected trees still:
- Grow normally
- Absorb pollution normally
- Contribute to pollution reduction
- Remain vulnerable to being physically destroyed
Natural trees are not affected.
π± Tree Planting Tool
A dedicated tree planting tool is available from the shortcut bar from the start of the game.
Simply drag over an area to plan a forest. Construction robots will then plant the trees using tree seeds available from your logistic network.
Planned trees appear as small tree ghosts, giving you a clear preview of where the forest will be planted.
π² Natural or Grid Planting
Choose how trees are distributed with the Planting Pattern setting.
Natural
Creates a noise-driven forest with irregular spacing, dense groves, and natural clearings. The resulting forest has no obvious planting grid.
Grid
Places trees in exact staggered rows, making it ideal for organized plantations and decorative layouts.
π Configurable Spacing
The Planting Grid Spacing setting lets you choose spacing from 1 to 4 tiles.
The setting applies to grid-based placement and provides control over the overall density of your plantations.
πΊοΈ Large-Scale Planting
Large selections are processed progressively instead of being rejected or causing the game to stall.
You can plant up to 50,000 trees in a single selection, making it possible to cover an entire island or create enormous forests with one drag.
Large planting jobs are processed over time to keep the game responsive.
A chat message tells you when a large planting job starts and when it finishes, so you know the job is still being processed.
π€ Construction Robot Integration
Trees are planted through the normal construction system.
The planting tool creates tree ghosts, and construction robots use tree seeds from your logistic network to fulfill the construction requests.
No manual planting of thousands of seeds required.
Important Details
- Trees are only planned on ground where tree seeds can actually be planted.
- Trees are never planned on space platforms.
- Trees planted using the tool are protected from pollution damage just like trees planted by hand.
- The mod does not disable pollution or change how pollution affects natural trees.
- Protected trees can still be destroyed by fire, biters, player actions, or other sources of physical destruction.
Performance
The mod is designed to remain lightweight even when managing large forests.
Large planting jobs are processed progressively rather than all at once, and tree tracking is maintained efficiently to avoid unnecessary scans.
Forest refresh operations are performed in bounded batches instead of every tick, preventing large forests from causing unnecessary tick spikes.

β¨ Players who want a greener Nauvis
Whether you want a perfectly organized plantation or a dense, naturally scattered forest, No Dead Trees lets you grow it without turning tree planting into a full-time job.
