I often place miners at maximal distance rather than density. If I'm not bothered about mining speed and just want coverage that would be a good toggle option to have. Less miners means less power and pollution when I don't care how long it'll take to clear.
This would be especially useful with mods that give upgraded large area miners.

Might be interesting if it's something like FARL where you can set your own miner blueprint of 2x2 miners.

I've added an option to space the miners based on their mining radius. Only in one direction though, because the belt and maybe the pole setup would get much more complicated.

I like the FARL idea, but that will get much more complicated and time consuming to implement.
