Hmm, you're right, it's by a factor of 10. Must be some scaling thing, I'll look into it this weekend. It may have the same 60/sec limit issue as the assemblers as well.
I checked the rates for all mining, they do not suffer from the tick limit because miners can mine more than one ore per tick to compensate for excess speed.
