g Space exploration compatability?

1 year, 3 months ago

Can i launch this with a space probe rocket and shoot down from the orbit of the planet, also is it balanced so i can't shoot outside of a planetary body's range for instance to another planet? i'm just curious because this seems like an excelent addition to space exploration

also can i configure it to launch more individual nukes but with smaller radius? it just seems a bit TOO big for a nuke to be used that often so i'de rather have nukes maybe 2x the size of missile nukes yk

Some notes for anyone else stumbling on this thread:

  • MIRVs can only be targeted at the surface they launched from. This means you can't launch from a SE orbit to a SE planet, from a SE planet to SE orbit, or from planet to planet.

  • The targeting remote is compatible with SE's satellite view. Like other remotes, you can get one for free from the crafting menu. Pinning the remote to your toolbar will tell you whether you have MIRVs available on the surface or not.

  • The technology is gated behind space science and costs 10k each of space, production, utility and each of the terrestrial science packs. This makes it available mid-game. In comparison to other comparable technologies:

    • Orbital ion cannon mod: 5k each of the same packs, but gated behind a tier 1 energy technology.
    • SE weapons delivery cannon: tier 1 astronomic, energy and material packs in addition to the same packs as the MIRV.
    • SE energy beaming glaive: tier 3 astronomic, energy and material packs in addition to the same packs as the MIRV.
  • This makes it available slightly sooner than the ion cannon, but considerably sooner than the delivery cannon and well before the glaive. It is fairly expensive per shot (it gobbles up rows of U-235), but will very quickly clear out large nests. If you have the ion cannon installed, it will quickly become obsolete though.
