This module deals primarily with resource extraction from the ground.

There are two variables that define effectiveness of a mining drill, mining speed and power. Other items, such as assemblers, smelters and so on, have one variable, speed. Also there are many graphic files for the electric mining drills. For these reason mining and drilling is in its own module.

In this module, both the power and speed are adjustable. A player upgrades the mining drill, with no upgrades to speed or power. In such a case, only the coverage area will increase (11, 15, 19, 25, and 31). For power usage and pollution generation is affected by the player defined settings. Pollution is effected more by the speed of the drill or pump jack while energy usage is effected more by the power of the same item. This gives the player the option to choose using more energy and generating less pollution, or less energy and generating more pollution. The size of the miners and drills are the same, and based on the choice, the player can have small upgrades to the drills, and stack then close to each other, or big upgrade to the drill and only need a few per resource field. Pump jacks have their own setting, so it is possible to have a pump jack set with a high power and speed, while drills have small power and speed upgrades per tier.

Likewise the recipes to create the new pump jack and drills will be affected by the user's selection of power and speed improves per tier.

Finally, the cost of researching the next level is determined by the user configuration settings. The higher the player configuration settings, the more expensive the level will be to research. For example Hiladdar's Mining 5 could cost between just below 1k to over 1m!
