Sure it works. You'll only have it in your inventory when you start a new world, though there have been cases in the past where bugs in other mods delete it again which i can't do anything about :/.
If you want to craft it you'll have to enable crafting in MainMenu->Options->ModSettings->Startup->"Enable recipe", and possibly "Make recipe cheaper" if you want to use it early game.
