have you considered adding more levels per factory? like. accessible via buildable stairs or elevator, maybe something similar to the underground mod with multiple levels, connected by power. could allow one level for production and one for power generation.
This is essentially what recursion2 research does for you. You can put buildings of the same size in buildings, so can pretend each one is a new floor.
