g Factorissimo2 cannot understand how to use factory chests?

(updated 4 years ago)

I am so frustrated! Factorio 1.0, Factorissimo2.

I can successfully set up belt connections from inside to outside. Inside the factory I get the green arrow pointing in or out. All is well.

I do not understand how to make chests work? I have only researched vanilla chests (wooden/iron/steel), cannot test with e.g. Requester chests. From the Factorissimo2 help:
Place a connectable thing at the outside location of some port, and place the same kind of thing at the inside location of the same port, and if they are compatible, they will form a connection, and you will see an icon appearing next to the connection on the inside of the factory building: green for belts, blue for pipes, brown for chests and red for circuits.

You can connect any vanilla or modded chest or logistics chest directly to the factory building.

Googling around, no instructions. Just this from a Reddit post:

I'm pretty sure you put a chest in the output block where a belt would usually go, then it connects to a chest on the same spot outside. So then you can chose to balance, or transfer or whatever.

I have done this --- chest inside the factory on the "output" square, chest on outside at matching arrow. Stuff in inside chest. Nothing comes into the output chest. Tried inserters on inside/outside instead, no better. No "balance"/"transfer" choices I can see anywhere, if that makes any difference.

So just how do you move things from an inside chest to an outside chest, get that "brown connection icon" it mentions inside the factory? Is it really this non-obvious?

I'd really appreciate an answer...! Thanks.

[P.S.
While I am here: how do I search all the "Discussion" posts for mentions of "chest", given that I must be blind but cannot see a "Search" button anywhere here?

EDIT: OMG, have I just seen there is a research for "Factory upgrade: chest connections", available after "Logistics 2"??!!

Yes, you need to research chest connections first before you can use them.

So sorry, I just didn't cotton onto this. "Not obvious", but easy for me to say :) Thank you so much for your excellent work in this mod, @MagmaMcFry!
