Recursion 1 is green science. However, it requires tech that's blue science before you can attempt it. It should be made consistent so you don't get surprised about when you can unlock it.
As for which direction it should go.. In my game I only pushed for the mk2 building because I thought I could use it for oil and nest the oil subproducts inside it. Without that I would likely skip mk2 entirely.
