the original reason charcoal preparate exists is that when I first got into modding I could not get the wood to go into the smelting slot instead of the fuel slot. To make it a fuel makes less sense to me. making charcoal is effectively burning wood (without enough oxygen). Making coal out of it stacks just as well (on a belt at least, not in a chest)
