The exploitation of animals is a fact of life. We're animals; we're exploited. It is what it is and I'm enjoying at least one of your other mods.
Maybe the locals could be hungry and biodiversity = attack frequency, but large amounts of biodiversity provide bonuses.... encouraging people to protect and grow their animal populations... as a alternate to grinding people up for profit.
