Low tech filtering:
Using basic inserters and a box, you can make a filter inserter. Restrict the box to a single stack of items, and pre-load it with a sample of your desired material. The inserter arm will then only grab items which will fit in the box.

Just take care not to let the boxes empty completely, and your ores will be sorted easily.

Can't seem to get the game to load without having to disable mine even when this is the only mod used.

Sorry I took so long, but the bug is fixed now. Though I get errors when I try to upload the new version of the mod, will try again later.

Also I like the idea but I dont see how you'd make sure the chest stays keeps at least one item. But yeah you could use multiple of those and it might last you just long enough until you get regular filter inserters.

Idea on poor-man filter: Use a railcar with filtered slots instead of a chest.
